Process shots of the custom cedar deck railing built from scratch for the backyard patio entrance.
The pieces are joined with dowels—this method creates a strong joint without the use of nails and using a doweling jig keeps the holes centered and straight.
Dry fitting in the workshop before the final glue and stain helps ensure the pieces fit together precisely.
Pre-staining, then one coat of varnish, then sanding in the workshop keeps the pieces clean and able to dry thoroughly before assembly onsite.
Once installed, one final sand and varnish coat (check out how water-resistant the wood is now!)
